Our cities and towns face unforeseen circumstances related to climate in-migration and population increase. Our region and its places must mobilize strategies that prioritize "walking first" in a climate crisis. To steer away from personal vehicles and toward walking, demand for essential amenities requires the means to reach them by foot. Much as climate will inevitably impact walking, a "walking first* approach will mitigate climate impacts and bring regional resilience. Core values include flexible land use, higher quality public space, public-private maintenance agreements, essential amenities within walking distance, and an intensive fabric to shorten distances between home and destinations.
