This Master in Community Planning Capstone continues to explore a Climate Resilient future for Cincinnati – the City and the Metropolitan Region. As a climate haven, the city and the metropolitan region must be readied to receive climate migrants and be more resilient to our own climate related issues.
The City of Cincinnati Office of Environment and Sustainability are in the process of updating Green Cincinnati Plan which presents a comprehensive set of recommendations to advance the sustainability, equity, and resilience of the city and includes 80 strategies to reduce Cincinnati’s carbon emissions 80% by 2050.
Green Umbrella’s Regional Climate Collaborative (RCC) is following Green Cincinnati Plan with a Regional Action Playbook. The playbook will serve as a resource for regional public agencies to better understand climate impacts on their communities and advance adaptation and mitigation solutions.
This semester’s capstone project focuses on climate-driven migration to the greater Cincinnati metropolitan region (the 10-county region defined by Green Umbrella) with a focus on building regional climate resilience and factors affecting it. We will explore the growth potential of the region and test the feasibility of climate resilience approaches in the context of this dynamic. The project will also understand a ‘playbook’ as a community planning and urban design tool.
Each student will propose an innovative idea to enhance regional climate resilience and develop an actionable playbook proposal based on the collection of everyone’s idea.
