Transforming the Saint Xavier High School Grounds into
a Functioning Ecological and Educational Opportunity
Spring 2022 | Horticulture Capstone Project
Instructor | Prof. David Gamstetter
The University of Cincinnati’s Senior Capstone in Horticulture students partnered with Cincinnati’s Saint Xavier High School to develop a vision for the enhancement of their woodland school property. The goal is for students and visitors to the property to safely enjoy the space and to encourage plant and wildlife diversity by active management to preserve healthy, native habitats. The land is informally used for educational purposes and outdoor classroom activities, the project centered on formalizing the vision for the space and creating recommendations for incorporating spiritual, ecological, educational, and management of the site and methods to encourage community inclusion.
